The objective of FEM’s rehabilitation management program is to achieve efficient recovery and safe return to work and community of injured or diseased employees of our policy holders through

Rehabilitation Management

  • Monitoring and coordination of the medical rehabilitation process.
  • Assessment and approval of assistive devices to improve independence.
  • Monitoring and coordination of the vocational rehabilitation process.
  • Reintegrating the employee back to the workplace and the community.

Rehabilitation Authorization

  • Ensuring that adequate rehabilitation, which may include Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, assistive devices, and other services is authorized as per the COID Act.
  • Monitoring compliance with the government Gazette by the rehabilitation service providers.

Upskilling and Reskilling Programs

  • Facilitating the vocational training programs.
  • Providing employees who sustained a permanent disability with an opportunity to acquire a new set of skills which may enable them to:
    • Re-enter the job market in the field of their choice.
    • Start a small business in a sector of interest.

Tip-Offs Anonymous Service

FEM has a Tip-Offs Anonymous Helpline, which is available to employees 24 hours a day, seven days a week in English, and is equipped to handle all eleven official languages of the Republic of South Africa between 8am to 5pm.

The Helpline is staffed by an organisation independent of FEM, and to the extent
possible (and in conformity with regulations); callers do not have to give their name. In all cases, employee privacy will be respected to the fullest extent possible under the law. The operator will relay the information to FEM and will provide the employee with a case number and call back date if desired.
